Hi, I’m Taylor, a UX designer with a love for creating user focused designs and interacting with people through UX researching techniques. UX has been a big part of my life the last 4 years, and throughout my journey as a student in Digital Design I have gained amazing experience from industry professionals and real world projects, which has led me to be a much more confident designer.
In my spare time you always finding me involved or consuming football andfootball content, which is why PitchPal was such an enjoyable project for me in my final year!
PitchPal is a mobile app that will aim to reduce the stress & pressure parents feel with their kids involved in youth sports, allowing them to plan effectively & stay on top of tasks. As a result, they will be able to help their child’s sports development without the internal pressures of planning & logistics.
The idea for PitchPal stemmed from my upbringing in a family obsessed with Sports & having a dad who coached a youth football team for over 5 years. This allowed me to see the challenges which often don’t get talked about in Youth Sport that don’t get talked about that Parents & Coaches deal with every week.
Sketching and wireframing are crucial in the UI design process for Pitch Pal because they allow for rapid iteration and refinement of the app’s layout before investing in high-fidelity design and development. By mapping out key features like scheduling, messaging, and the Coach’s Hub early on, we ensure a seamless user experience that prioritizes clarity, ease of navigation, and efficiency for busy parents and coaches A key part of this project was being able to create a unique brand for Pitch Pal, it was essential to differentiate it from generic scheduling apps and establish it as a trusted, go-to solution for parents managing their child’s youth sports journey. A strong brand identity ensures that Pitch Pal resonates emotionally with users, fostering a sense of reliability, organization, and community while making the app instantly recognizable.
I am very happy with how my major project has turned out, after feeling somewhat nervous and daunted by the size of the task ahead at the beginning of the year, I feel this project has challenged me as a designer, allowing me to learn by experimenting, and overall made me a better designer overall. I feel with PitchPal I have been able to tap into a market which isn’t regularly spoken about, allowing parents to find that balance in their child’s life between, schoolwork, family time & their extra-curricular sporting commitments. Being able to sit face to face with my target user group and hear real stories and struggles from real parents was a great experience and allowed me as the designer to tailor the app completely to my user’s needs and not just because I felt it was the right design choice. The app offers a wide range of features that I feel covers a lot of the pain points I found out about in the research phase. It is very rewarding to see the app come to life, branding being used in real world scenarios and encapsulating it all in this document, and it is a project I will forever be proud of. I’m especially pleased with how my brand turned out and how I was able to subtly add this to my app without overwhelming the UI.
