Hi I’m Lucy! I am a UX and UI designer who enjoys combining functionality and aesthetics into design. I enjoy conducting user research in design process and getting to know and understand the user to ensure their needs and wants are met. I’m excited to begin my career in this fast-paced and ever-evolving industry that offers endless opportunities to learn, grow, and make a real impact through design.
In my spare time you will find me reading, trying new coffee spots and spending time with my family and friends.
Odyssey is an interactive revision guide made for GCSE students, which will provide them with a new and engaging way to revise science. It covers the 6 prescribed practicals within each science that has been outlined by CCEA for the upcoming GCSE examinations.
Odyssey aims to inspire young minds by creating a platform that allows them to immerse themselves in the world science. Providing them with a new and engaging revision technique through the use of bold and dynamic images paired with narrative driven content, in a comic book style.
I was inspired to create Odyssey through my own experiences with fond memories of how excited we were to conduct experiments in class or how dishearten we felt when planned practicals were cancelled and we had to go back to our work books. Experiments were a fun but educational breaks from normal classes.
The process of creating Odyssey began with research. I set out to understand and refine my target audience through surveys, which was to gage what subjects they are struggling to revise and what revision methods they are currently using. I then conducted interviews with both students and teachers to understand what they would like to achieve with my project. Using a few other research techniques such as empathy maps and user personas I was able to set my target audience and continue in the design process.
Once I had completed my initial research and had validated that not only was this a project I wanted to take on but was needed by students, I began sketching and wireframing. I had clear labeled sketches which helped me to create my wireframes which I then brought into Figma and began creating the low fidelity versions of Odyssey.
As I began creating my low and high fidelity mockups I saw my idea come to life by introducing the bright and immersive images. Once I started to prototype the designs I was able to enhance the flow of screens which allowed me to start user testing them. This allowed me to receive feedbacks and change any aspects to help improve the overall design.
The design process of Odyssey was long but rewarding and I’m so grateful that I was able to bring my idea to life from sketches to a final prototype.
This project has been an emotional journey and while I have found it difficult at times, I’m proud of how far it has come from that first idea to now. I have learnt so much from my lecturers and peers that has shaped how I design, and problem solve when issues arise.
Additionally, it has pushed me outside of my comfort zone by encouraging me to design for a younger target audience. Overall, this project has helped me grow as designer and from this I have created a project that I am proud to share, and I hope that people enjoy using it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
