Hey, I'm Katie — I've recently completed a four-year degree in Interaction Design (Digital Design), a journey that’s been instrumental in shaping both my personal and professional growth. My time at university gave me a solid understanding of the digital design landscape and how to approach it creatively and strategically.
During my placement year, I worked as a UX/UI Designer at MHS, where I contributed to the design of software used within the prison system. This role sharpened my prototyping skills, introduced me to agile workflows, and emphasised the importance of accessibility and designing for a wide range of user needs.
In my final year, I expanded my skill set to include brand content creation, developing graphics for web, email, and social media. I have also gained some experience in packaging design, influencer marketing, and event planning and hosting. Working across these varied platforms deepened my understanding of user experience—not just online, but across every touchpoint with a product or brand.
I'm now excited to bring this experience into a creative, forward-thinking team where I can continue to learn, grow, and create meaningful, user-centered design solutions.
“Echo” is an innovative mobile application designed to transform travel memories into beautifully curated digital and physical scrapbooks. The app allows users to seamlessly integrate photographs, text entries, voice notes, videos, and collected treasures(such as receipts, tickets, and postcards) into a complete travel journal.
The core idea is to utilise AI to collate and enhance these user-generated inputs, creating a scrapbook that mirrors the charm of a hand-made version.
The inspiration for this project stemmed from my personal passion for travelling and documenting my travel experiences in the form of intricate scrapbooks. While I enjoy creating travel scrapbooks, I understand that not everyone has the time or creative drive. I also realised that many people’s travel photos remain on their phones and risk being lost or deleted as it is not as common to print physical photos anymore.
Therefore, I wanted to create a way for anyone to have a personalised travel souvenir, even if they aren't creatively inclined. I also saw the opportunity to integrate AI technology to make this process much quicker and more seamless than traditional scrapbooking.
While the idea of Echo highlighted that there was an underlying issue I was trying to resolve, I wanted to deep dive into other people's travel and scrapbooking habits and gather research related to the project.
I was then able to build out my target user groups, creating user personas and user journey maps before moving on to create sitemaps and sketches for my app's flow. Having the bones of my prototype drawn out, I began the prototyping process on Figma. I went back and forward many times with different ideas and sketches before finalising my prototype ready for testing. After a testing and refining phase, my prototype was finalised and ready to go. Throughout this, I was able to create a mock-up of what the digital scrapbook would then be printed like and have it on display as a tangible souvenir of both my travels and of my project.
The Echo App offers a creative and stress-free way to preserve memories by serving as a digital hub for gathering images and personal treasures such as stickers, postcards, business cards, and receipts. Instead of feeling the pressure to organise everything immediately, users can simply collect items over time. When ready, they can generate a personalised scrapbook of their trip. The app enhances the collection by pulling in complimentary materials, imagery, and backgrounds, creating a handmade, rustic aesthetic that mirrors traditional scrapbooking. The finished product can be printed for a tangible keepsake or saved as a digital copy to cherish forever.
