Jordan Gault

Hi there, my name is Jordan Gault, I am currently a UX Designer at Origin Digital, based in Holywood.

I have always had a passion for design in all aspects, everything from UI and UX to branding and illustration. But all ideas have to stem from something and I have the capabilities to come up with forward-thinking ideas. This mindset gives me the ability to have an open mind when it comes to design thinking.

I also see myself as a storyteller, all design is telling a story, with the right concept and tools your story can be brought to life in unique and informative ways.

Touched With Contempt

Touched with Contempt is a motion comic in the style of Film Noir. The world is brought to life with the use of sounds and motion, creating a gripping and immersive story.

The story is set in the year 1952 in Harlem, New York City. It will be broken down into 3 short episodes, the first following a detective named Jason Marshall. He finds himself in an unfamiliar situation while on the search for a deadly killer. The second episode follows his partner, detective Morgan Locke, he continues the search for the killer, now dubbed “The Harlem Noose” due to how they leave their victims. The third and final episode will bring the two stories together in a chilling conclusion.

The Process

The idea for this project came from me wanting to try something outside of my comfort zone. I have always had a real love for illustrations, however, my style before Touched With Contempt favoured more flat designs. Trying something more on the side of realism inspired this comic.

Starting this project, I had to familiarise myself with the art style I wanted to go with, this meant watching classic film noir pictures and reading comics that have been visualised in this style. Then came the drawing practice, which was the hardest part. Once I had my style down, creating the story and bringing it to life were the next steps. I did this using Procreate for the iPad, it made this process really enjoyable!

The Outcome

I brought everything together using Flinto. I chose this prototyping tool due to the vast amount of features it allowed me to add. I also really love the way the viewer app allows you to view the prototype, it is the closest thing to a finished app I have seen. I would love to expand on this story and even create more stories within this world!
